Why not just use concrete unprotected?

Concrete does not burn, but when exposed to rapid thermal impact it will spall either progressively or explosively. ISOLATEK® Type M-II provides predictable performance under fire and prevents concrete from spalling under the most severe fire exposure conditions. ISOLATEK Type M-II is more resistant to cracking and spalling compared to concrete. It prevents concrete spalling under impact and thermal shock and is more resistant to effects of deluge water. If damage to the spray fireproofing system occurs, repair is quick and easy and traditionally do not require tunnel shut-down.

How long has the ISOLATEK® Type M-II product been in the market?

ISOALTEK Type M-II has been the preferred choice worldwide for over thirty years with over tens of million of bags installed within commercial, tunnel, manufacturing, petrochemical and other similar industrial facilities globally.

How is ISOALTEK® Type M-II installed?

ISOLATEK Type M-II is a single package material which requires only water as an activator. ISOLATEK Type M-II is applied using a rotor stator type pump utilizing water and compressed air. Who can install ISOLATEK® Products?

Do your products contain asbestos?

All products manufactured by Isolatek International contain no detectable asbestos. Ensure that all fire protection material suppliers provide independent test verification per EPA/600/R-93/116.

Why should ISOLATEK® Type M-II be used to protect concrete linings in Tunnels?

Isolatek International offers a complete system utilizing ISOLATEK Type M-II as the basis of fire protection for cut and cover, immersed tube and bored tunnels. This system has been extensively tested and exceeds the requirements set forth by the International fire curves and standards.

Is a topcoat necessary for certain types of applications?

A topcoat is not necessary, however, a portland cement compatible topcoat is recommended in order to improve light reflectance and washability in road tunnels.

Has ISOLATEK® Type M-II been used in various environments throughout the world?

Yes, ISOLATEK Type M-II is the preferred choice worldwide for use in Petrochemical, Tunnels and other heavy industrial facilities from the North Slope oil fields of North America to the Southern tip of South America; from Europe and Asia to the Middle East, Africa, and Australia; there is not any geographical location where ISOLATEK Type M-II isn’t in use.

Can ISOLATEK® Type M-II be applied to existing tunnels?

Yes, due to its ease of application and flexibility around complex shapes, ISOLATEK Type M-II is suitable to application to all types of existing tunnel structures.
